Dr. Janet C. Rucker is the Bernard A. and Charlotte Marden Professor of Neurology and Ophthalmology and the Division Director of Neuro-ophthalmology at New York University Langone Medical Center.  After medical school at St. Louis University, she completed Neurology residency and Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Rucker maintains a busy Neuro-ophthalmology clinical practice and clinical research eye movement laboratory, an active national and international teaching presence, and serves on the board of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society and as an editorial board member of the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology. Her primary research interest is abnormal eye movements in neurological disease.

Nick qualified in medicine from the University of Birmingham. He went on to take a PhD in Cambridge. He was promoted a personal chair in Clinical neurology and neurogenetics in 2001 and the established chair of Genetics at UCL in 2009. He was elected to the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Science in 2004 and to senior investigator of the NIHR in 2008 (now emeritus). He is currently UCL Professor of Genetics, a Consultant Neurologist and NIHR programme director for Neurosciences at UCLH.

He is a clinician scientist whose main research focus is the dissection of the aetiology and pathogenic mechanisms of movement disorders. These represent major health problems and the burden of these conditions is high and increasing in our aging populations. His lab have worked across a number of disease areas to find genes causing neurological disease. 

His lab has been responsible for identifying several genes that cause familial PD, - PINK1, LRRK2, GCH1 and PLA2G6. They have also identified gene for ataxia (SCA11 and RFC1) and 5 dystonia genes.

He also works with international collaborators (IPDGC and GP2) to elucidate the commonly occurring genetic risk factors underlying PD.

My major research interests are in the basic mechanisms of primary headache disorders, such as migraine and cluster headache, in both experimental and clinical settings, and translating these insights into their better management. I am the Director of the National Institute for Health Research - Wellcome Trust King’s Clinical Research Facility (CRF). The CRF provides dedicated facilities to support the delivery of externally-funded early translational, experimental medical research, including early-phase studies and early translational research studies that are nested within later-phase studies. I lead the Biomedical Research Council Themes; Clinical Research Facility, and Pain and Headache. I am also the National Lead for Neurological Disorders for the Clinical Research Network, NIHR UK, a Trustee of the Organisation for the Understanding of Cluster Headache (OUCH UK) and Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee, Migraine Trust International Symposium.
